In areas with overhead utilities, our crews use bucket trucks to attach fiber-optic cable to utility poles. This work may briefly affect traffic flow, so please pass our teams with care.

When utilities are underground, the process is a bit different. First, local utility companies mark the location of existing lines with temporary flags or paint to prevent accidental damage. Our crews may also carefully dig in select areas to confirm utility locations. After that, conduit and fiber vaults are installed along the designated easement. Finally, fiber-optic cables are placed and connected to form one continuous network.

This process typically takes a few weeks. Once construction is complete, our crews will restore any affected yards and public spaces.

Yes, VNET Fiber is permitted to work within designated utility easements. These are typically located along streets, sidewalks, front yards, back alleys, rear lot lines, or between properties. If an easement falls inside a fenced yard or secured area, our crews may need your assistance to provide access. Authorized personnel must be able to reach these areas in order to complete construction.

Our crews always assume there may be unmarked private utilities underground and take care to avoid them. If you’d like to be extra cautious, you can mark areas of concern with pink or white flags or landscape-safe paint. To help protect your property, we encourage you to keep any markers or paint in place until construction is finished. Utility flags are used to prevent accidental damage to existing lines, with different colors indicating specific utilities—blue for water, yellow for gas, orange for telecommunications, and so on. Any paint markings are temporary and will naturally fade over time.

Unfortunately, we cannot move or take care of plants or other items placed within utility easements. Before construction begins in your neighborhood, we’ll leave a door hanger to give you time to relocate any plants or objects to a safe area.
